This past weekend I learned something that I’ll never forget. While sipping something delicious a friend explained that ketchup has been labeled as the perfect food. Before his explanation I already knew this tidbit because of the fact that I smother the bloody red goodness all over…everything. But the conversation continued and I found out that ketchup is in fact perfect because it tickles each of the five taste sensations-Saltiness, Bitterness, Sweetness, Sourness, and Umami. Look it up. It’s true.
As an afterthought, I figured out today-when a coworker asked me what I had been working on-that I had discovered a perfect song. It went something like this:
What’s up, dude? What’ve you been working on?
-Oh, you know, I just realized that Metallica’s “One” is the perfect song. It hits on all five of the hearing senses.
Really? What are the five hearing senses?
-I don’t really know. Listen to that song and you’ll see what I mean.
Oh, cool. Can I borrow your iPod?
-Absolutely not.
